We Try To Strike A Sound To Make Sense Of Everything
Audio Installation
Singapore National Library

In this sound installation, five dialect-speaking Singaporean Chinese, all of whom have adapted their accents over the years since the cease of the usage of dialects in 1980 on local media, shares their personal stories through an audio recording. The very essence of hybrid accents when the Chinese dialects slips into a Mandarin intonation and vice versa, speaks of the inseparable relationship between political environment and the identity of the self.
